Follower counts are a trap. Track these instead.

A growing follower count feels like winning. It's also the easiest number to inflate and the least likely to pay rent. If it's the metric your team celebrates, you're optimizing for applause — not revenue.
Why followers lie
You can buy, bait, or giveaway your way to a big number that never buys a thing. Followers measure how many people once tapped a button — not how many will ever spend a dollar.
The five numbers that actually predict revenue
Revenue per follower — is the audience worth anything?
Save + share rate — real intent, not vanity likes.
Click-through to site — are they leaving the feed for you?
Cost per acquisition — what does a customer actually cost?
Repeat purchase / retention — do they come back?
What to do with them
Put these on the dashboard the team actually looks at, and let follower count sit in a footnote. If a post grows followers but moves none of these, it was entertainment — not marketing.
The takeaway
Grow the numbers that grow the business. Followers are a byproduct of doing that well — never the goal itself.
