Test too few ads and you're just guessing which one to scale. Test too many and you spread budget so thin that nothing gets a fair read. The right number isn't a magic figure — it's a system.
The problem with "just test more"
Every ad needs enough spend to reach a reliable signal. Ten ads on a small budget means ten inconclusive results and a lot of wasted money. Underfunded tests don't teach you anything.
A framework that scales with budget
Start with 3–5 distinct concepts — not variations of one idea.
Give each enough budget to exit the learning phase.
Kill clear losers fast; don't nurse them.
Iterate winners into new variations.
Only widen the test as the budget grows.
Concepts vs variations
Test big, different ideas first. Once one wins, test small changes — hooks, edits, cuts — within it. Testing variations before you've found a winning concept is just rearranging deck chairs.
The takeaway
"Enough" ads is however many your budget can read clearly. A few well-funded tests beat a pile of underfunded guesses every time.
